Simply put, "Doting", is about an open marriage that is going swell until the husband chooses a woman 25 years his junior. (Bad form.) Green pairs simple moments with his usual genius for symbolic and distinctive dialogue. Sometimes compared to Evelyn Waugh, both authors were more than likely results of the dry and withering wit reserved exclusively for post-war England. Green's final novel.
