This is a facsimile edition of Dutch photographer, Ed Van Der Elsken's, personal copy of "Jazz". It is an embarrassment of riches. More than 100 photos depict such Jazz Giants as Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Count Basie, Coleman Hawkins, Sarah Vaughan, Johnny Hodges and Gerry Mulligan, with Dizzy Gillespie gracing the front cover. Photos are in black and white, capturing these Jazz geniuses (without flash photography) at the height of performance in Amsterdam nightclubs; intimate and infinite. One of 1,000 unnumbered copies includes reproductions of musician's signatures in silver ink. "Jazz" is included in the list of seminal books for collectors of photography (Andrew Roth, 101 Books). Lacks publisher's English-text booklet. Text in Dutch.
